Maritimers Unite for Medical Marijuana
MUMM STRIVES TO:
Educate the public, policy makers and elite opinion makers about the value of medical marijuana.
Defend therapeutic cannabis clubs and other safe and effective means of distributing marijuana to patients who need it.
Frame a debate around Health Canada's inability or unwillingness to meet its court-ordered obligations to supply therapeutic cannabis to Canadians with a legitimate medicinal need.
Unify medicinal cannabis advocates, patients, and caregivers on a focused campaign. Strengthen alliances between Dispensaries and patients throughout Canada.
Maritimers Unite for Medical Marijuana
Maritimers Unite for Medicinal Marijuana Society,
East Coast Chapter of Canadians for Safe Access, is working to pressure Health Canada to ensure easier access to safe, legal, affordable cannabis for ALL who require medical marijuana.
MUMM endeavors to defend the rights of legitimate medicinal marijuana patients, cultivators and distributors including compassion clubs and societies, particularly in Atlantic Canada through legislative strategies, media campaigns, and non-violent direct action.
MUMM works proactively with regional grassroots activists and municipal, provincial and federal politicians, institutions and agencies to protect the rights of patients who require cannabis for medical purposes, as well as those who risk prosecution by supplying them with their medication.
Maritimers Unite for Medical Marijuana Society (MUMM) was officially
incorporated on Oct. 30th, 2003 as a non-profit organization under the
Nova Scotia Societies Act. MUMM's founding members decided that
becoming a non-profit was crucial for a variety of reasons:
An official organization with objectives based on educational,
advocacy and lobbying principles designed to assist patients and their
medication suppliers was long overdue in the Maritimes.
Our federal government in 2003 was apparently unwilling to create a truly
workable, compassionate system for medical marijuana patients, their
care-givers and medications growers and distributors (Even with a
change in government in 2006, the unwillingness to develop a meaningful
medical marijuana program remains).
To function
effectively as a non-profit, MUMM needed to raise funds to finance our
efforts. Achieving a non-profit status required that MUMM adopt a
formal structure and meet high standards of accountability to gain
legitimacy. In doing so, MUMM confirmed our obligation to operate in a
visible and ethical manner.
